Humane Society of Boone County

The Humane Society for Boone County is a private not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization almost entirely volunteer operated and dedicated to the task of animal welfare, rescue and education in Boone County, Indiana. The shelter operates through a network of generous donors, volunteers and foster families. The Humane Society for Boone County is not associated with nor receives any financial support from the Humane Society of the United States. We are a managed admission shelter. This policy guides how and when we accept dogs and cats and greatly affects our capacity for care, volunteer morale and ability to provide quality customer service for people and animals. By carefully managing the acceptance of owner-surrendered animals we can improve animal flow, reduce intake and better serve the community.

Pick a shift that works for your schedule to spend time caring for dogs staying at the shelter. Our volunteers play with, walk, feed and clean up after the pups to provide them companionship, care and enrichment. We have am and pm care shifts available each day. 7 am - 9 am-ish and 5 pm to 7 pm-ish.

Wish List

The Humane Society for Boone County uses thousands of paper towels, recycles grocery shopping bags for doggie bags, and also needs many bottles of Original Dawn dish soap, gallons of laundry detergent for soiled dog and cat beds, and an incredible amount of hand sanitizer. It is hard to imagine how many cleaning supplies, how much kitty litter and all the other supplies we use throughout the year. Your donation from our Wishlist can help offset some of these necessary purchases! https://www.hsforbc.org/wishlist.html

Join the many others in our community who have donated to help save animals' lives. Contact us if you'd like to be a part of our fundraising team or make a donation. Since its inception, the HSforBC has received many gifts from thoughtful donors. The results of these gifts are the shelter, food, love and medical care for the homeless, neglected and abused pets in our community. Your much appreciated and thoughtful gifts ensure that compassionate care will be available for homeless dogs and cats in the future. One-time donations are so very appreciated. We appreciate your willingness to help out when we ask for help to fix a broken leg or treat a heart-worm positive dog. Without fail, our community rallies and helps us treat these sick dogs and cats.
